Typeradio

"Typeradio - Now we are talking"

Typeradio is a Microfm broadcast, a MP3 internet radio stream and a podcast station. Since 2004 Typeradio hosts Donald Beekman, and Liza Enebeis visit different design events around the world, to meet designers and to talk.

Going to typeradio.org you're immediately greeted by a player and the playlist of all the available podcasts below it. The podcasts are listed in the order by the date in which they are added but can be easily changed to list the guests, event or amount of plays the podcast has had. Listening to the first couple minutes of a few of the podcasts Liza and Donald seem to have a general interest in whether the designers are religious as it's the first question they are asked. The talks seem to be very laid back and casual and topics change throughout the talk, but for the most part it's designers recounting how they have achieved the success that they have now. The talks are really interesting, I can definitely see myself coming back to the podcast to hear about the challenges and struggles that these working designers have faced throughout their career.

I listened to the first podcast listed where they had a talk with Richard van der Laken and Pepijn Zurburg who run the Dutch graphic design studio Designpolitie. They talk about how they came together in Designpolitie, their minimalist design approach, how a design style can be limiting. They also talk about what led to the development of the What Design Can Do conference that they created.
