Back Cover is a magazine based out of Paris, France that focuses on graphic design, typography, and the practice of visual arts. Instead of covering news or presenting portfolios, Back Cover incorporates interviews and articles that analyze typography and the visual environment that we live in. Designers from all over the world are encouraged to participate in it and show their thoughts and experiments with type and design.
In terms of it's layout and page setup, Back Cover's articles are visually diverse and often experimental in it's treatment of type. Some pages place heavy emphasis on color while others are filled with empty space; it all depends on the content of the article and the thoughts of the author. All of the articles remind us of the importance of words and letterforms and how they can impact the communication of ideas.
Anyone interested in typography and design would probably find these magazines enjoyable, but I especially like that it reaches out to an international (and bilingual) audience. It certainly brings together an assortment of brilliant and opinionated people from around the world. I think that I could have a lot to learn from wisdom of people who have already been working in graphic design for a long time.
