Baseline Magazine

Baseline Magazine is an International Typographic Magazine printed in England. Each edition has articles written by and often about prominent people in the graphic design and typographic world. It also often features new typefaces and advances in the typographic and graphic design industry. The magazine, which is heavily type based but also includes illustrative images, features a wide range of subjects revolving around the world of typography so that there's something for everyone.

The typography and overall design of Basline is based around each article itself. Because of this no two pages look the same. Below are pictures I took of the cover and an article in the magazine about a new typeface, called Hint. Hint was created by Ivan Chermayeff and is an all cap sans serif alphabet that is based on squares. Because it is such a chunky typeface there are only hints of the counters and corners, it's not meant to be a practical or easily used typeface. The spread for this article was designed around a grid that helps to emphasize the squareness of the typeface. I think there is definitely something to be learned there that could help my design in the future. It's important that your typography reflect the message you're trying to get across. Baseline definitely does an excellent job of that.
