ROLLING STONE

I took a few snapshots from the latest Rolling Stone magazine. This is an entire page spread for a Vans ad.  The text is great for such a thing, sans-serif and bold.  It is possibly Arial but I am not certain, something similar for sure though.  Parts of letterforms are missing to imply that it is worn or weathers.  Leading is used quite a bit, possibly the reason it looks like there is some rivers. I still love the simplicity, and would not hesitate to use design styles.

In this horrible picture from the table of contents, you can see the use of grid in the design.  Aside from the obviously places, more subtle ones exist.  For example, the end of the number 1175 falls down the face and creates the small sub-box that contains RG3's picture. These are the type of little things that create a visually pleasing and balanced page. As for the typeface, the header appears to be some modern serif font similar to Bedoni and Didot.
