2wice magazine - Kirsten Neff

2wise art foundation is an organization that supports the visual arts, and their magazine works to combine all different art forms, such as dance, photography, performance, architecture, design and pretty much any other art form you can think of. Their "uniform" issue is fascinating. It talks about and discusses uniforms from many different places and how uniforms affect uniformity and our opinion on the topic.

I really like the way type is used in this issue. Because the focus is more on the photography and the uniforms themselves than on the type, it's important that the type, while still giving the readers important information, takes a sideline to the photography. It has simple, clean lines, and a uniform grid throughout the magazine. The type itself is composed of all sans serifs.

I can definitely use this technique in future work. Sometimes the more simple the typography and page layout, the easier it is to get your point across and sometimes allow other aspects of your design to stand out. In this case it's the photography.
