The first book I chose was mainly in Japanese and the author was nowhere in English, but the name of the book is "Chun Ware of the Sung Dynasty". This is the cover, the size of the book itself was about 15.5 x 11", and it is a book over Japanese ceramics, mainly from the mid 20th century.
Here is the table of contents, the first being in Japanese and being read vertically, and then in English where we read left to right.
This is generally how most of the pages were laid out, with photos on one side, and the text on the other. The Japanese on top and English on bottom. I enjoyed the size of the book and the extreme simplicity of design, besides the Japanese characters the fonts were serifs.
The second book I chose to write about is called "Contemporary Ceramics" written by Susan Peterson. It's about 11 x 10" and is all about more modern ceramicists.
As you can see here the table of contents is laid out very similarly to the other one. It's centered nicely in the middle of the page flushed right, but this one uses sans-serif typefaces and peppers in some bold words.
The pages of the book follow suit. The simple grid structure for the layout is there, and the lowercase headers are in a very modern typeface.
My third book that I chose was Gustav Kkimt - Landscape, written by Stephan Koja. It includes tons of paintings by the Russian artist. It is roughly 12 x 11" and is a pleasant colored light green.
Here is a shitty picture of the table of contents, it once again is neatly centered on the page and flush right written in serif typefaces.
Very nice layout and grid use like the other modern book. I thought it was well made but the sizes of the second two I picked just wasn't as fitting as the first, longer one was.
