Modular Grid - Sylvia Dang

The University Star is a great example of a modular grid system. Newspapers have massive amounts of information and a modular grid provides more control on organizing the information than a manuscript or columnar grid. The modules on the grid group together to form spatial zones that differentiate one topic or story from another. The University Star also uses wider gutters to further the distinction. These spatial zones also help the reader associate images to their corresponding story. And the use of type hierarchy like the titles, headers, and body text allows the reader to understand how the information presented to them is organized.
