Grid Example// Isabel Ann Castro

I get lucky at the thrift store sometimes and find neat Typography books. I happened to find a spiral bound book that was probably a textbook for type classes in the late 1960's. Type & Lettering by William Longyear, Fourth Edition: Revised and Enlarged.

In this book, it ranges on the types of grids used because they talk about copy casting, type terms, type specimens and the mechanics of type. The most recognizable grid was a hierarchical grid. It was used in the Type Specimens sections. This grid easily lays out the alphabet horizontally but in some instances allows a typeface to be a bigger type size than the other to hi-light it's special features.
